Up and At ‘Em!

This is Gloria Kilby, from West Nottingham Presbyterian Church in Colora, Maryland.  

After an amazingly quiet night in Guatemala City, near the airport, with hardly a sound all night, I woke up at 5:30 to the sound of a very loud jet taking off. At breakfast, some people said they woke at 5 a.m. to the sound of a trumpet call from the neighboring military school.

Largest Trip to Date Sparks Excitement and Anticipation

For the most part, the world is quiet at 4:00 in the morning. Kimberly, a fellow traveler, picked me up at and we headed to the Philadelphia Airport. A few lights on in homes and very few cars on the road. Traffic was light, parking and transfer to shuttle bus was easy. There was a sense of uneasiness that is in the back of my mind regarding travel: would the lines be long, would we have to rush to the gate, would my boarding pass come up on airport WiFi and other first world concerns.

Steering Committee Formed and Getting Down to Business

The Guatemala Partnership of New Castle Presbytery has just exploded in the last two years….in a good way! There is new energy from churches, new excitement from individuals, and new commitment from the Presbytery. We launched a website, increased our financial support tenfold, and formalized our partnerships in Guatemala. There are now 12 churches within the Presbytery involvedwith more in the wingsand more and more individual members have traveled with us to see God’s work up close.
