The global impact of COVID-19 was unprecedented. Lives lost, jobs vanished, and plans put on hold. For those already living in vulnerable communities in Guatemala, the effects of this crisis were even more devastating. The government put curfews in place and halted public transportation, making it difficult for people to get to work or shop in the markets for food.
But even in darkness, God’s light shines.
In response to this crisis, we teamed up with CEDEPCA and the Association of Mam Christian Women for Development to provide additional support to those in need. Our first initiative was supplying Emergency Food Kits. (Then we moved on to egg-laying chickens.)
These food kits:
- Contained basic staples such as rice, beans, oil, sugar, flour, salt, oatmeal, powdered milk, eggs, Clorox, toilet paper, and detergent.
- Helped feed a family of five for one month
- Reached the most vulnerable women of the Association first
- Were sourced from local businesses and distributed by CEDEPCA
- Cost $70 each
Thank you!
We are so grateful to all of the donors who supported this project. Your outpouring of support enabled us to provide a food kit to every member of the Association (530 women and their families!). Thank you!
