Reaching New Heights

Several members of New Castle Presbytery are traveling in Guatemala this week to spend time with CEDEPCA and the Association of Mam Christian Women for Development. Yesterday, we attended the Association’s bi-annual Assembly meeting and all we can say is WOW!

La Asamblea

First, let’s start with the meeting space. Rosario Diaz, coordinator of the Association, has just completed construction of her new three-story health clinic and it is beautiful!
The Association now has space for its office and meetings. A dream come true! Thanks to a generous grant from New Castle Presbytery’s Ignite team, the Association has purchased furniture and office supplies including a filing cabinet, desk, computer, printer, 50 chairs and a conference table. With this grant, they were also able to hire a part-time administrative secretary and a part-time accountant in February. These new staff members are whizzes at Excel and Quicken and are keeping track of the microloan requests and the general budget, as well as waiting lists for stoves, latrines, and water filters.

Twice a year, representatives from the 17 current microloan groups gather to report on their projects and receive updates from our partnering technical experts. They have definitely reached a new level of sophistication – with one microloan group even giving their report as a PowerPoint presentation!

A special thanks to Ignite and to all of the churches and individuals who have supported the Association. They are prospering and reaching new heights!
